Weapon System: Hitscan & Projectile
Characters in this game utilize a variety of sci-fi weapons that deal moderate damage and typically have a low Stun build-up rate. Weapons are categorized into two primary types based on their firing mechanics: Hitscan and Projectile.
Player Weapon:
- The player is equipped with a Hitscan weapon, specifically a Dual Handgun.
- This weapon allows for instantaneous damage applied upon firing in the aimed direction, rewarding accuracy and reflex-based play.
Enemy Weapons:
- Enemies wield a diverse set of weapons, mostly Projectile-based, with some utilizing Hitscan weapons depending on their type and behavior.
- This variation creates diverse combat scenarios that challenge the player to adapt to different enemy attack patterns.
Weapon Type Definitions:
- Hitscan: A firing method where the shot instantly hits the target in the direction aimed, with no bullet travel time. Accuracy and tracking are key.
- Projectile: A firing method where the bullet or energy travels at a set speed and can be affected by gravity, distance, or other factors. Timing and prediction are essential.
Example (from Overwatch 2):
- Soldier: 76 uses a Hitscan rifle, bullets hit the target immediately upon firing.
- Sojourn uses a Projectile based plasma rifle, bullets travel through space and only register damage when they make contact with the target.
This distinction in weapon types allows for varied combat experiences, with different tactical considerations based on whether the weapon delivers instant impact or delayed damage.
